Renowned laser physicist Dr George Bekov has developed the most technologically advanced dental diode lasers on the market. Years of medical community research influenced Dr Bekov to create a pulse mode using short pulses with a duration of 10 millionths of a second and an amplitude of 6-7 watts. These energy levels are high enough to cause coagulation of surface tissue and have bacteriocidal properties. Spectralase Elite Diode Laser automatically adjusts the pulse interval depending on the wattage setting. The higher the wattage, the longer the interval, allowing time for the tissue cooling. The self adjusting pulse will deliver an average power that insures patient comfort and prevents tissue charring.

Our research and clinical experience has led us to conclude this combination of variable pulse width and pulse interval is optimal for laser performance and tissue health. The wavelength has also been upgraded from 810 nm to 980 nm because studies prove 980 nm light is absorbed more efficiently at the tissue surface with depth penetration 5 times less than with the 810 nm laser beam.

Even with shorter pulses and higher energy of 6-7 watts; the average power of the GentlePulse mode is much lower than Continuous Wave or standard on/off pulsed lasers. Standard "old fashioned lasers" with 10-25hz 50% duty cycle pulses are very close to continuous wave and provide a very slight advantage over CW mode.
